Research task 4 – Finding out

Use the links on the right hand side of this page to find information to fill in any gaps in your passport booklet.

Then choose a country that we have not looked at yet and fill in a new page in your passport booklet.

Research task 3 – how are you going to find out?

  1. Use the tourist office site to find the national tourist board website for your country.  Write down the website address on your Information Sources sheet (address starts with http:// and is shown near the top of Internet Explorer).

  2. Look in the library for any books about your country (look around 910 for geography books).  Write down the title, author and location (school library, then the number on the spine) on the sheet.
  3. Think about other ways of finding out about your country.  Do you know any people who have been there?  Are there any tourist information leaflets in the collection in the classroom?  Write these down on the back of your sheet.

Research task 2 – What do you want to find out?

The next step is to think about what you want to find out about the country you have chosen.

Fill in the middle column of your KWL grid with questions about the country, for example:

  • What sort of food do they eat?

  • What animals live there?

  • What is the weather like?

Research task 1 – What do you already know?

Think about what you already know about the country you are researching. Do this before you start looking for information – it doesn’t matter if you don’t know much about it yet!

  1. Create a mind map on A3 paper of the things you know.
  2. Fill in a KWL grid with the things you know (in the first column)

Introduction

This website will be used to help you to organise your independent research.  I’ll put links to useful websites on here, as well as the tasks you need to complete.

You’ve all chosen a country to find out about. So far, there are children researching:

  • Spain (seems to be a very popular choice – 10 children)
  • England
  • Ireland (2 children)
  • Scotland (2 children)
  • Barbados
  • Australia
  • Portugal (3 children)
  • Canada (2 children)
  • Madagascar
  • United States of America (2 children)
  • Russia
  • Italy
  • Mexico

Over the rest of this term, you will be finding out about your country and then doing a presentation about what you’ve learnt.
